View Builder
Last updated April 26, 2026
The View Builder is where you create and configure Workbench views. Each view defines a combination of forecasting type, periods, fields, layout, and indicators that together give you a specific perspective on your forecast data.
Creating a new view
Go to the gear menu in the Workbench toolbar and select New View.
Step 1: Choose the primary forecasting type
The first thing you select is the primary forecasting type for the view. This determines which hierarchy and data set the view is built on.
You can combine fields from multiple forecasting types in a single view, as long as they are compatible. Two forecasting types are compatible when:
- They use the same roll-up hierarchy (both role-based or both territory-based).
- They use the same grouping mechanism (both ungrouped, both grouped by product family, or both grouped by the same custom field).
You cannot mix fields when one type is grouped by product family and another by a custom field.
Step 2: Configure periods, fields, layout, and indicators
After selecting the forecasting type, you can configure:
- Periods — Which months, quarters, or years to include. See View Builder: Periods.
- Fields — Which forecast fields, formulas, and comparisons to display. See View Builder: Fields.
- Layout — Standard or stacked orientation, total columns, and grouping display. See Layout Options & Indicators.
- Indicators — Visual elements like progress bars, change indicators, and coverage ratios. See Layout Options & Indicators.
Step 3: Save and name the view
Click Save and give the view a name.
TIP
Add a description to the view. The AI Insights feature reads this description to tailor its analysis to the purpose of the view.
Editing an existing view
Go to the gear menu and select Edit View. You can change everything except the primary forecasting type, which is locked after creation.
